Busy spiritual weekend

BOy, did I have stuff going on this past weekend!! I'm still a bit in recovery mode. First, I officiated at my first wedding on Saturday, for Ray Anderson and Michelle Young, who both work at the bank. Second, I preached at Concord Bible Church on Sunday. Third, I had our quarterly small group leaders meeting Sunday night.

More details on these later

men's group update.

I realized again tongiht that I am not in charge of the ministry that God has called me to. Rather, He is. Big surprise, huh??

My men's discipleship group suffered some attrition when Alex had to drop out due to work issues and some other stuff. We were really disappointed to lose him. But that Sunday, Dave Fasold preached a sermon where one of the application was the need for believers to spend time with wise people. The Spirit spoke to Alex on this point and he redid his schedule and is now back with out group. Being with us for the next year is now a high priority for him and I'm looking forward to what God continues to do in his life.

It's not my ministry, but God's. I'm just holding on for the ride.

The Weeping Prophet

For the rest of the year, my Bible reading/devotional time etc is going to be spend in the book of Jeremiah. I want to to through it thouroughly and let it seep over me and into my body. I'm breaking it down into 13 sections of 4 chapters each and I'm going to spend 10 days going over each section.

GOd is using Jeremiah to constantly call Israel back to faithfulness to Him. Over and over are the pleadings to put away idols and abominations, act right and return to The Lord. That's a pretty broad theme to carry over 52 chapters. In some ways, it will be like shooting a beam of light through a prism and seeing the different lights that come out. so it is with the theme of abandoning sin and returning to God. How many different ways can Jeremiah say this? Which ones will make an impact on me? I too want to do all that I can to abandon sin and be with God as much as possible. My prayer is that God would use the words of Jeremiah to impact my life in a permanent way.

finally back...yet again

I'm hoping this week to get back on a regular routine here. Christa and I just got back from So Cal on Saturday. It was a business trip primarily but we got to spend a bit of time with Christa's family as well. I was able to connect with George, Kevin and Mike as well.

I always feedl disoriented for a day or so after I get back from long trips. It takes a day or so to get back into the routine. And this promises to be a pretty busy week as well. On Thursday night I'm doing the rehearsal for Ray and Michelle's wedding. SAturday is the wedding. I'm preaching at Concord Bible Church on Sunday and a small group leaders meeting on Sunday night.

finally...it's over!!!!!

I'm finally over a nasty bout with the flu. It kept me in bed for a couple of days and then a couple more trying to get strength, appetite, etc. back.

I think I've figured out how sickness works in our house. Caleb and Christa usually get it back-to-back or even overlapping. Once they both get over it, then the clock starts ticking. Usually 48-72 hours later...WHAM. End of story.

One of worst things for me about the flu is not the constant lying on the couch waiting for the fever to subside or something better on tv. I just get so sick of drinking Sprite. Good for the tummy, but if I never see another bottle of it, then that's fine with me.
